My humble neighborhood

April 24, 2008 at 11:55 pm (Places) (, , , , )

It’s easy to take your surroundings for granted, but every once in a while a beautiful day or an unusual event makes you look up and take it in again. This was one of those days. Walking home from yoga, I felt alert and alive, and I looked up to see my street and the river and the bridge and the perfect line of trees.

But really, as we’ve seen from the sunset pictures, walking home is always one of the best parts of my day.

I’m pleased as punch about today’s picture.

Lantern shadow

The sun cast this lantern’s shadow on the wall of Ile Saint Louis, rising up from the Seine.

Ile Saint Louis in the afternoon sun

February 7, 2008 at 8:18 pm (Architecture, Nature) (, , , , , )

I decided when I set up this blog that I would allow myself up to three pictures a day if they were good ones. Today I’m posting two!

Ile Saint Louis

I love the warm glow of the buildings of Ile Saint-Louis in the afternoon light. It reminds me of the warmth that the buildings in Montpellier radiated in the sunshine. I might just be relieved to have a day without rain!
